I’ve been doing a very limited friends only blog for several years (5 or 6?). It’s mostly to keep in touch with friends, plus some private journaling about the fun/not-so-fun details on our lives. A long, naval-gazing baby-book of sorts.
I’ve been using more and more home-schooling and crafting blogs as resources lately, so I have been meaning to do more with our projects at home and put them somewhere.
We don’t home-school, and won’t home-school, but I am still influenced by the ideas and great projects I keep seeing on the home-schooling resources. I’d love to be one of those hippie mamas with a big garden, home-schooling (or un-schooling), crafting and cooking with her kids, etc. Instead, I have a big fancy degree to pay for and a family to support, so I work full time while my son attends a lovely home-daycare. Our weekends are hectic and our home is usually pretty chaotic. The chaos at home and his original daycare was definitely having an impact on our little boy. In an effort to figure out ways to curb some of the acting out (a.k.a. biting out of frustration), I started reading everything I could find about early education. I found so many resources out here! One of my favorites is Motheringdotcommune.com. In addition to getting a calmer, more structured daycare situation, we implemented a number of changes. The changes are still in process but it’s led to us trying to surround our toddler with less blinking flashing toys that DO something, and more natural materials that encourage creativity. It’s a 180 shift, but the changes in how he plays were immediate! Another day I’ll post the cool source list I found…not everything has to be expensive! Some of the best things are available online from the same places the fancy stores get them…at a fraction of the cost!!
So I guess that’s it in a nut-shell. I’m going to blog about crafty stuff. And pre-school age stuff. And whatever else I think about. My own little corner of the web I guess.
Coming up soon…ADVENTURES IN PLAYSILK DYING! I’ve already done some, but Walker and I have a play-date of sorts with Mary and Niamh to do some more!
